Adventures galore with turtles and more
The original name for the Cayman Islands – as dubbed by Christopher Columbus – was Las Tortugas, in reference to the vast amount of turtles he and his crew encountered here when on a passage through the Caribbean on 10 May, 1503.

And although the name didn’t stick, the turtle became central to Caymanian life as sustenance and for work. A quick glance at the national airline’s logo shows how this creature is close to the heart of the country, for one.
Cayman Turtle Farm, located in West Bay, offers much excitement for the young, and the young at heart.

Touch tanks enable children and adults to interact with juvenile turtles. Or, you can watch their older siblings in the breeding pond, too. Swim and snorkel in the saltwater lagoon, or check out the sharks in the predator tank, complete with a massive viewing window.

For those who prefer to look up, the aviary is home to exotic birds, including a pair of breeding native Cayman Green Parrots. Step back in time on Caymanian Street, which features a replica of old-style Caymanian houses, as well as local artisans demonstrating traditional skills, such as thatch-weaving.
This 23-acre facility also features a bar and grill, and a gift shop.
