The beauty of Britannia At first glance, the course at Britannia Golf Club looks easy enough. There aren’t a lot of sand bunkers, not much rough and as long as a shot doesn’t end up in water, the ball is playable. But tight fairways, small greens, numerous water hazards and strong winds coming off North Sound make the course much more challenging than it looks.
Located across from the Grand Cayman Beach Suites, Britannia is set up as a nine-hole layout that is played twice from different tees, for a 5829 yard, par-70 course.
The links-style course was designed by Jack Nicklaus, the only course in the Caribbean with the golf legend’s signature. Opened in 1985, Britannia was the first golf course in the Cayman Islands.
Two noteworthy holes include the signature par-3 fifth hole along the shoreline that requires a carry over the waters of the North Sound and the 510-foot par-five ninth, which requires the golfer to carry over the water twice.
Britannia Golf Club is open year round with tee times from 7am in winter and from 8am during summer.
