Blue Tip is the newest golf course
in the Cayman Islands, having opened in 2006.
A part of the Ritz-Carlton Grand
Cayman, its claim to fame is being designed by Greg Norman. Over the years the
PGA legend has been successful building golf courses in addition to playing on
them.
The result is a nine-hole, par-36
course stretching 3,515 yards (over a 120-acre site) with five sets of tees for
varied play. At the heart of Blue Tip are five long par-four holes into the
Caribbean trade-winds. Much of the play takes place along a natural saltwater
lagoon with views of the North Sound.
Blue Tip is private and exclusively
for the use of Ritz Carlton guests and owners. Tee times can be had at short
notice and the course caters to frequent and infrequent players.
Starting 1 December, golf fees are
US$215 (for 18 holes). Club rental for 18 holes is US$75. The clubs are Taylor
Made Burners, the latest models received from Taylor Made Golf.
Play for golfers 15 and younger is
complimentary for certain tee times after 3pm when they are with a paying
adult. Children can also get free instruction when they accompany a paying
adult on a short game or playing lesson.
At the helm of Blue Tip is Director
of Golf David Loomis. A PGA class ‘A’ professional and graduate of Ferris State
University, Loomis worked in Miami and Jupiter, Florida with a stop in Jackson,
Michigan.
