Britannia is the only golf course
in the Cayman Islands designed by Jack Nicklaus.
The PGA legend is known just as
much for designing great courses as he is for his play. Britannia, the first in
the Caribbean to be built by Nicklaus, lives up to that pedigree with a design
reminiscent of Royal Troon, Turnberry, and Royal Birkdale.
The hall mark of a Nicklaus design
is his ability to provide players of all abilities with a challenging and
rewarding golf experience. Britannia, which is 5,829 yards long, uses the natural
challenges of a seaside layout along with a picturesque view.
Britannia is set up as a nine-hole,
par-35 course that can be played as a par-70, 18-hole challenge (which would
require two different sets of tees). It is part of the Grand Cayman Beach
Suites (formerly the Hyatt Regency hotel).
Britannia’s Golf Supervisor is
Brent Weimer. Former European PGA Tour pro Marcello Santi is available for
private lessons.
The current rates, which include
the use of a cart, are US$115 (18 holes) and US$75 (nine holes). The afternoon
special is US$50 (applicable after 3pm). Club rentals are US$50 (18 holes) and
US$25 (nine holes).
