There are few places in the world that offer the kind of culinary experiences available in Grand Cayman. From fine dining with international cuisine to local food from roadside eateries, there’s something for every palate. Fresh fish from our bountiful waters is, of course, one highlight, but more adventurous diners can also try local delicacies such as turtle stew, conch, oxtail stew and jerk chicken. With all the choices available, Grand Cayman is no place to start a diet!
Seymour’s Jerk Centre
You
shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and you shouldn’t judge Seymour’s Jerk
Centre by its appearance – basically just a shed with an attached barbecue
grilling area. What you can judge Seymour’s on is the taste of its food. Owner
Seymour Silburn has been making jerk chicken and jerk pork on Grand Cayman for
more than 30 years from various roadside locations. Now he has a permanent
location on Shedden Road, where, in addition to jerk, he serves up tasty
Caribbean favourites like grilled fish, fish tea, rice and beans and
festival. It’s open late, too!

Island Taste
Before hamburgers became popular with the opening of
fast-food restaurants, Grand Cayman locals ate patties instead. Today these pastry pockets filled with a spicy
ground beef mixture are still popular, and now there are chicken and vegetable
options available, too. Island Taste
serves its own freshly-made patties in addition to Jamaican Juici Beef Patties.
Also try the ever-popular spicy hot dog, a peppered sausage encased in a pastry
shell. Located in the Caymanian Village shopping
plaza on North Sound Way, Island Taste is open for breakfast and lunch for
take-out only. On weekdays, at lunchtime it also serves authentic local dishes
and soups that change daily.
